January Tune Time: Snow Stomp
Here’s a tune I wrote on a snow day here in Nashville. This was the first one I wrote in 2024 and it just came to me as I was sitting on the couch playing the banjo at my buddy’s place.
It’s in open D tuning (f#-D-F#-A-D), which can be a very helpful hack to write new material. It throws you out of the familiar and (sometimes) creatively stifling realm of open G and you get to feel around for different ideas, stumbling upon new ones accidentally.
If you’re ever feeling like you don’t have any new ideas, experiment with new tunings to open your horizons!
